Welcome to my blog!

I am a lefty. I write vertically, cannot use can-openers and was recently foiled by a right handed ladle (I will have my vengeance...) but more than this, I generally seem to approach life from a different angle. I appreciate that this may have nothing to do with being a lefty and may just be my own dysfunctionallity, but after earning the nickname 'Lefty-Flip' after a frustrating game of Guitar Hero, it seemed an appropriate title for this blog.

Blogging on the sly...

*Creaks door open* Hello? *tiptoes in* If everyone promises to be quiet, I can do some sneaky blogging!

Due to my spontaneous house move I am currently without internet! Will be surreptitiously blogging during office hours but don’t tell!

This does mean that my posts will sadly be Fran-free for a little while, as posting pictures of my cat is a rather large giveaway that I’m not doing what I should be…

Am currently living amid a fort of boxes – unpacking has ground to a halt as I have run out of shelves to put things on! Have been spending my evenings leaving through the trusty Argos catalogue, folding down corners to mark three times as much furniture than would ever fit into my new home. This has actually been my sole source of entertainment for a while due to the fact that I had no TV signal whatsoever. Then my DVD player conked out, swiftly followed by a sticky-buttoned Playstation.
I snapped at the weekend, got the credit card out and went and got a new tv! Hey presto, I now have (some) working channels! No Dave though L am very sad as this means I’ve not been getting my regular dose of QI and am running out of interesting facts!
Being about to quote Argos catalogue numbers doesn’t qualify as interesting I have been informed.
It may not be interesting, but I feel it deserves some recognition, especially seeing as my perusing was done by candlelight due to a busted light fixture in the living room!

But things are shaping up in the Lefty-Flip household, my light has been fixed, my new bed finally arrived, and Fran has finally realised that she lives here now. She has stopped slinking round with her tail between her legs and has realised the fun to be had in pouncing on me from under the stairs and enjoying a nightly game of hide and seek.

Needless to say, I have done absolutely no writing whatsoever the past three weeks! Turns out not all women can multi-task after all.
Am happy to be taking things one step at a time at the moment though! And will settle for a working tv and a happy cat.

Ah, the little things in life.

Will try and post again soon!

The shake-up continues!

Well doesn't time fly by when you're having fun! I can't remember a January I've not spent hiding under the duvet (or at least wishing I was).
House update - well the first house I went to see was a complete let down. It was tiny! Literally no room to swing a cat. Well, maybe Brian but certainly not Fatty Frances. Seriously, I could have opened the front door without leaving the sofa.
But...
I have since found somewhere far more suitable and in a fit of frivolity decided to take it! I move in less than two weeks!!!
So I am now frantically packing up my belongings (including over 100 Harry Potter books - yeah yeah, I know I'm crazy...) and attempting to shop for furniture, because I don't actually own any!

In between boxes I have managed to squeeze in some writing... not sure this is the right time for a major rewrite of an entire section but that's what's happening! Ah well, I'm having a clear out of old junk, that might as well include crappy writing!

All in all, still got that lovely New-year-anything-is-possible vibe going.

Good times.

Laura

PS In more cryptic news, I have updated my twitter bio in an attempt to flush out any VFD'ers out there. If you know what I mean, then I don't need to explain - if not, keep on walking, nothing to see here...

New Years Resolution? To shake things up...

Happy New Year! That's not me well-wishing - it's a direct order! This new year better be a happy one dammit! I am determined to make good things happen this year, or at least make stuff happen... I can't be responsible for the results!

So lets take a look at my shambles of a life then.

Number one - the Job. Well after taking two and a half years to get my foot in the door, I don't dare rock that boat! Maybe I'll start a rumour that I'm getting promoted/a pay rise and see what happens...

Number two, I am determined to get a place of my own this year. Don't get me wrong, I love my housemates, I just love my own space more! Am very excited about this, so much so that I am actually going to look at a place tomorrow... will be back to update!

Number three - The Book. the second draft is nearly done, I swear! Trouble is it needs a 3rd... possibly a 4th... Still, what else have I got planned for January but to sit indoors, eat chocolate and write? Hopefully I'll be posting that the 2nd draft is done by February (if my porky fingers will still allow me to type by then)

Number four - my weary weary bones. I have an appointment at the hospital on Monday and am viewing this as a good thing as I am done feeling sorry for myself! Really hoping it's not arthritis, but will be nice just to know what's going on.

And that's all for now! I think that's plenty to be getting on with.

While I'm in this chipper mood I best get off and do some writing!

Ahh, Fran at one with nature!

Bye for now!

A Plea to the Mice of Wiltshire

After my truly epic writing spree last weekend (6000 words and an entire chapter in a day and a half - is that a trumpet I hear blowing?) I have followed up this weekend with... barely a page.

I assure you this is because I am taking the time to mull over some deep ideas, it had nothing at all to do with the amount of wine I drank Friday night (or Saturday night...)

None at all.

(Hic!)

In my defense I was also a little distracted by an uninvited visitor. For a while now our tiniest cat, Brian (yep, Brian) has been bringing us... presents. Dead mice to be specific. And many of them. It's a lovely treat to come down to in the morning. Even better is when he's decide to eat it...

I shall stop there.
Don't be fooled - this dude is a cold blooded killer.

The last few times he's bought in such a present we've tried using our stern face, scowling at him and generally attempting to explain to a CAT that we do not appreciate the early morning mouse guts...
Well apparently some of this got through his fury little head. Because the next mouse he bought in was alive!
Cheers Brian.

I wonder if he's been trying to bring us live mice all this time, only being a cat he plays a little rough and just loved them too hard... Shall have to re-name him Lenny. Since then we've had two more live mice, one of which Fran tried to pretend she had caught herself. She made a show of running round with it in her mouth but the second I booted them both out the back door Mousy made a break for freedom and Fran decided she was too sophisticated for such shenanigans.

Sure you are Frannie, sure you are...

Anyway, I am pleased to report that all three live mice managed to leave the premises in the same state! How long for I can't guarantee as we have had several more dead ones since.

If the mice of Wiltshire have any common sense they will all go and hibernate - for the love of God, HIBERNATE! There's only so much death a girl can take before breakfast.

Slap-dash-posting

Holy moly, Chapter 9 is finished! Two weeks overdue so now cracking on with Chapter 10... and then I believe I have a choir rehearsal to go to...

Eeek! December cometh...

Oh and as it's Friday...

Fran Friday

Attention everyone. Due to crappy weather, and an ever crappier mood, I plan to spend the weekend under a duvet.

With this little Bean for company.

Thank you, that is all.
